Mineral Sunscreen…What?

Does mineral sunscreen (powder form) really work?

The short answer – Yes!! But if you are anything like me, in this day and age of Google and Wikpedia the short answer is never enough for me.

How Does Mineral Sunscreen Work?

Mineral Sunscreen essentially acts like thousands of umbrellas on your skin.

Produced from naturally occurring zinc ore. Zinc Oxide is one of earths most abundant minerals. Zinc oxide protects your skin simulating thousands of tiny umbrellas on the skin’s surface by absorbing and shielding your skin from the full UV spectrum of sunrays. And if your skin has experienced some damage from UV rays, the Indermica 360™ Pro Infusion Facial skin treatment deactivates oxidants removed from UV damage. It is a natural physical sunscreen compared to chemical sunscreens that have been synthetically created. What makes Zinc Oxide a good filter is that it is an earth mineral. Although it has been crushed down to a powder, it maintains a powerful barrier to the sun’s rays. Therefore, it is very stable and does not penetrate the skin. More importantly, it won’t breakdown in the sun. In scientific terms, it “is safe from oxidative free radical production and chemical damage.”

That being said, one of the reasons I find mineral sunscreen works is that I actually reapply it. I keep a tube of ColoreScience SPF 50 in my purse and swirl it on several times a day. Sitting on that sunny patio? Tell me one person who will goop on a messy liquid sunscreen over their day make-up? not many I’m sure, but sweeping on a powder in a pretty applicator tube? I’m in. With this lightly tinted powder I’m getting sunscreen, slight coverage, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory shine reduction! Doesn’t get much better than that! Not only that, it’s totally safe for children and those pesky men don’t mind it either 😉

  • My wife and I have been looking into mineral sunscreen because her skin doesn’t handle the normal stuff very well. I had no idea that zinc could act as tiny umbrellas for your skin and block out UV. I also like that you mention how easy it is to apply and that you don’t have to deal with the mess of normal sunscreens. Thanks for the help!
