What Is Acne?
Acne is a common skin condition that affects many people at some point during their lives. It is a complex and continuous cycle that can be caused by many factors, resulting in a hormonal fluctuation that stimulates oil production. It is most common in adolescents but can be experienced at any age and range from mild to severe. Too often, people squeeze spots and blemishes because of their unpleasant appearance. Unfortunately, the habit can increase inflammation and, in extreme cases, lead to permanent scars.
What If I Have Acne Scars?
Fotona’s laser is ideal for mild scar revision. It safely and effectively penetrates the skin for gentle resurfacing of acne-scarred skin, helping to improve your skin texture and tone. Unlike chemical peels and dermabrasion, laser skin resurfacing allows the penetration depth to be precisely controlled by the practitioner. The laser gently vaporizes thin layers of the acne-scarred surface to reveal healthy, undamaged skin below.
What Types Of Acne Scars Can The Laser Treat?
Acne does not cause only one type of scarring. There are several types of acne scars that can be successfully treated with Fotona laser treatment. Some of the most commonly treated types of acne scarring include:
- Icepick scars: These types of scars cause indents in your skin. When your skin loses collagen, the affected areas collapse and leave an indentation.
- Rolling scars: Rolling scars are usually caused by inflammatory acne. This type of scarring becomes more apparent as your skin loses its elasticity.
- Boxcar scars: These types of scars have shallow edges. They are a direct result of the scar tissue being pulled.
- Keloids: Keloids are bumpy areas of skin that happen when your body produces an overabundance of cells during the healing process.
What Can Laser Treatment Do To Help My Acne?
Fotona’s laser treatment can reduce acne inflammation through photoselective absorption and controlled heating. The laser safely penetrates the skin to an optimal treatment depth to thermally and selectively destroy overactive sebaceous glands. In addition, the treatment can accelerate the healing process and stimulate collagen remodeling, an important step in the long-term treatment of acne.
Am I A Suitable Candidate?
The best candidates for the Fotana laser are those who have acne that has not responded to other treatments. They may also have scarring from acne that has not responded to other treatment modalities.
How Long Before I See Results Last?
Results from Fotana laser slowly develop over the course of two to three months. Afterward, you will continue to see improvement over the course of several months.
How Much Does Treatment Cost?
Since everyone’s treatment plan is different, the cost will vary. In consultation, your treatment plan and cost of treatment will be discussed.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
The duration of your treatment will depend on the severity of your acne or scarring, in addition to your aesthetic goals. The average protocol is two to three weeks with a minimum of four to six sessions. It is important to note again that every patient’s aesthetic needs are different, so your treatment plan will be customized to suit your needs.
Is Treatment Painful?
No, Fotana laser treatment is not painful. You may feel a slight stinging while treatment is being performed, however, this will resolve quickly once your treatment is complete.
Is the Fotana Laser Better Than Over-the-Counter Treatments?
What makes Fotana different is its ability to be deep within the skin and address acne at its core. Over-the-counter acne products only treat the most superficial layers of your skin, making them less effective than the Fotana laser.
