New advancements in light and laser treatments mean there are more options than ever. If you’ve been researching ways to treat sun damage, signs of aging, or uneven skin texture, you’ve probably come across BBL® and the HALO® laser by Sciton.

You might be wondering which treatment is right for you. At CüR Laser and Skin, we utilize BBL and HALO since both are incredibly effective at minimizing certain skin concerns. However, there are a few unique benefits to each.

What Are the Benefits of BBL?

BBL stands for BroadBand Light® (sometimes called IPL photorejuvenation) and works in the way the name suggests. This treatment uses high-intensity light beams to heat your skin and stimulate collagen production.

BBL can minimize uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, broken capillaries, enlarged pores, acne scars, and age spots – all with little to no downtime. Side effects are mild and might include a sunburn-like look and feel for the first 24 to 72 hours.

This non-ablative treatment works best if your skin concerns are more superficial. However, HALO is typically the better choice for more advanced signs of aging or deeper skin texture issues.

Who Should Try HALO Laser Treatments?

HALO is a hybrid laser treatment device that can switch between ablative and non-ablative techniques. Both treatments address skin tone and texture issues. The main difference between BBL and HALO treatments is the depth each one reaches. HALO laser treatments penetrate further than BBL to simulate collagen production deeper in the dermis. This makes HALO a better option for more stubborn pitted acne scars, moderate wrinkles, and deep sun damage.

Our providers can customize the laser depth with the HALO device and use ablative or non-ablative technologies depending on your individual needs. You might notice slightly more redness and swelling after HALO treatments, but this typically improves in four to seven days.
