Difference Between EMSCULPT® and CoolSculpting®

Understanding the Difference Between EMSculpt and CoolSculpting

Do you have body fat that just won’t budge? Do you want to build muscle definition, burn fat, and improve tone? There are two body sculpting treatments for toning the body and reducing those stubborn pockets of fat: EMSculpt and CoolSculpting.

If you’re contemplating getting a body contouring treatment, it’s best to know your options and how they align with your specific goals with your body. From fat freezing to fat melting, let’s take a look at how these two innovative body contouring treatments compare.

EMSculpt vs. CoolSculpting

Do you know that thin, pinchable layer of fat on your tummy? The harsh reality is that no amount of dieting and exercise will eliminate that completely. Fortunately, there is a solution that is more effective than trying fad diets and target exercises. That pesky thin layer of fat that sits below the skin and above the muscles can be treated with EMSculpt effectively.

However, when it comes to those thicker pockets of pinchable fat that you can grip between your finger and thumb, the better treatment is CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting will only treat stubborn pockets of fat. However, CoolSculpting will not build muscle.

EMSculpt, on the other hand, will treat thinner layers of fat and will also build muscle. The treatment is designed to take your muscle building and fat burning to the next level whether you exercise 7 days a week, or you are too busy to make it to the gym even once a week.

In many cases, candidates choose to get CoolSculpting first to remove thicker pockets of fat before transitioning to EMSculpt to tackle the thinner layers, while also enhancing muscle definition. For candidates who don’t have much pinchable fat, they may choose to go straight to EMSculpt to start breaking down the thinner layer of fat while also toning and building muscle.

CoolSculpting can target pinchable pockets of fat that sit under the chin, in the bra area, outer and inner thighs, the back of the arms, flanks and the abdomen, between the rib cage, and the pelvis.

How? Using no knives, suction hoses, or needles, CoolSculpting uses a patented technology that uses controlled cooling to target and kill the stubborn fat cells that remain despite diet and exercise. In the weeks that follow treatment, your body will naturally process the fat and eliminate dead cells.

Presently in Canada, EMSculpt can tone/build muscle while also breaking down fat in the abdomen/flanks and the buttocks by using high intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology, which triggers 20,000 powerful contractions up to 100% of their full potential. Contractions like these are unattainable voluntarily – even for elite athletes. Later this year, there will be treatments available for deltoids, biceps, triceps, calves, hamstrings, and quadriceps.

At CüR Laser and Skin, we offer both EMSculpt and CoolSculpting. We are one of the only CoolSculpting clinics who carry a Z Wave machine which used after the treatment to massage the treated area effectively by transmitting powerful radial shockwaves into the skin tissue and providing up to 40% better results.

To learn if you’re a candidate for EMSculpt or CoolSculpting, feel free to contact us and schedule a consultation.

How Many CoolSculpting® Treatments Will I Need?

When thinking about seeking out CoolSculpting, a patient will often wonder how many times they’ll need treatment to achieve the results they desire. The truth is, it depends on every individual body. Other factors include your expectations, commitment to the treatment and your attitude towards healthy living.

CoolSculpting can reduce certain areas that are difficult to lose through healthy diet and exercise, however, we encourage all of our clients to maintain a healthy lifestyle before, during and after treatment.

In general, patients to receive 1-3 CoolSculpting treatment sessions in each area treated. The amount of treatments needed depends on the results you want and the number of areas being treated.

One Coolsculpting Treatment May Be All You Need

CoolSculpting can naturally diminish between 20-25% of the fat cells in the areas it covers. It will not help you lose weight, however, it can improve the shape of your body, making it appear as though you’ve dropped pounds. This is because a 20-25% reduction can make a huge impact on the appearance of stubborn bulges. It can provide a visible difference for all body types. However, it is not as effective for larger pockets of fat.

CoolSculpting is most effective when a patient is close or nearing their ideal, healthy weight. Typically, a patient should only have about 20-30 extra pounds to lose. Patients at the ideal weight for this procedure may only need to undergo one round of CoolSculpting to achieve their goal appearance.

Multiple Treatments For Stubborn Fat

If you have a small amount of stubborn fat, one round of CoolSculpting can be effective. If you desire to slim a larger area, or you have slightly more fat on your body, you may need multiple treatments. Normally patients reach their ideal results after 2 rounds of CoolSculpting procedures.

After 2-3 procedures, a patient can dramatically improve their physical appearance. In theory, there is no limit to how many procedures a patient can undergo. The procedure is safe and promotes a natural bodily response to fat destruction.

Each treatment will be performed several months apart, to give the body enough time to react naturally, and dispose of the fat cells organically. Typically it is best to wait a minimum of 30 days before starting a new session of CoolSculpting, with 4 months being ideal. It is best to ensure you’re healthy before every treatment session and if you’ve had previous treatments, wait before you treat the area again to ensure all possible side effects have diminished.

A patient can, however, have multiple areas of CoolSculpting done at the same time, in one session. It is only suggested they wait when wanting to re-treat an area.

Treatments Are As Unique As Your Body

There is no certain way to determine exactly how many treatments you will need to undergo. Generally, if you are within 20-30 pounds of your ideal weight, and have specific problem areas, you shouldn’t need more than 1-2 treatments.

Patients are usually able to fully transform their bodies after 3 treatments, but it is important to maintain realistic expectations. Wait the entire 4 months after your procedure before seeking out a second or third treatment.

CoolSculpting relies on your own bodies ability to rid the body of fat cells. Therefore it can take time to see results.

So it is important not to get frustrated by waiting and be patient. If it has been 4 months after your procedure and you still do not see the results that you want, you can consider going for a second treatment.

CoolSculpting should never be used as a means of weight loss, and seeking out multiple treatments for the sake of losing weight is not a good idea. It is important to be within the ideal weight for CoolSculpting for the treatments to be most effective.

From a jiggly belly and love handles to wobbly thighs, batwings and the neck waddle–even cellulite–we diminish fat contours and reshape the body in ways that working out can’t.

The Harvard scientist-developed method ensures your healthy skin cells remain intact, has minimal downtime and side-effects, with lasting results you’ll love.

Coolsculpting featured in W Magazine

We are pleased to see CoolSculpting included in the latest beauty article in W Magazine where writer  interviews Dr. David Colbert, Dermatologist to the Rich and Famous.

Dr. Colbert says that CoolSculpting is “extraordinarily popular”, and for good reason.

CoolSculpting is the coolest, most innovative, non-surgical way to lose those annoying bumps and bulges of stubborn fat. This revolutionary technology targets and cools unwanted fat cells in the selected area to induce a noticeable, natural-looking reduction in fat bulges.

Unlike most other methods of fat reduction, CoolSculpting involves no needles, surgery, or downtime. Patients often spend procedure time reading, working on their laptops, or simply relaxing.

It’s safe, FDA-cleared and effective. Results look natural and can be seen as early as three weeks following treatment, with the most dramatic results after one to three months.

At CüR Laser and Skin, we have two machines, so patients can get both sides done at once, reducing the sessions in half. While most clinics use hand massage after the treatment,CüR Laser and Skin has Z-wave technology which helps break down the fat faster than hand massage alone.

Setting New Year’s Goals that Stick

We’ve all done it. We’ve imagined our ideal version, what we would look like and how our life would be if we were “successful”. We’ve been told to put down what that looks like on paper, or create a vision board and somehow, that vision of ourself will materialize. Then life happens, and we find ourself back at the same place come the following December.

We’ve created a list of six things you can do to make your 2017 resolutions stick.

Be clear about your goals

What does success look like? Create SMART goals so you will know when you’ve arrived.

Create an action plan through reverse engineering

Find out if your goals are manageable within a year by planning backwards on a calendar. What will you need to do to get to your goal? We often start with a goal that is too big to manage in the desired time frame. Be realistic. There is no shame in taking three or five years to pick off those big goals. The key is to keep going.

Make sure your plan utilized incremental steps

One of the biggest blocks is not knowing how to attain your goal. Make sure you outline all the actionable steps to get to your goal.  They should be small, incremental steps that are easily absorbed into your daily routine. You can plot those on a calendar too, and set up email reminders. Incremental steps lead to lasting change because they become habit and habits are hard to break.

Find an accountability partner

Foucault was a French theorist who wrote a lot about how we self regulate when we think we are being watched. Setting up a weekly date with an accountability partner can motivate you to complete your weekly tasks. Also, there’s nothing better than having someone rooting for your success!

Spend time with likeminded people

Find friends who like to do activities related to your goal. For example, you might like to find a workout partner, a friend who can teach you a new skill or join a Meetup group based on that activity.

Find professional help

We don’t always have what it takes to get to where we want to be. Working with a professional can help us achieve our goals faster and feel supported. You will spend some money, but in return, you’ll get good advice and efficiency based on specialized knowledge, skill and equipment.

We are always happy to help you with your goals. Phone the clinic for a consultation.

Tell us about your 2017 goals in the comments below.

What Happens to Your Body After CoolSculpting

Do you have stubborn fat that just won’t seem to go away, no matter how much you diet and exercise? Are you starting to feel like you will be stuck with this extra padding forever? Well, CoolSculpting may just be the solution to those bothersome bulges.

If you’ve been reading our blog posts, you’ll know that we’ve been going on on this for awhile. And this is not to beat a dead horse. We just happen to be really enthusiastic about CoolSculpting and what it’s been doing for our clients.

Based on the idea that frozen fat cells die and become absorbed by the body, this treatment is being turned to as an alternative to liposuction due to its non-surgical nature.

Combined with a lifestyle of regular exercise and healthy eating, the long-lasting results can help foster external comfort and internal confidence, making it a popular treatment worth checking out.

Read on to find out how CoolSculpting works and what happens to your body after the treatment.

What Is CoolSculpting?

Some of the most problematic areas when dealing with body fat are the abdomen, love handles and thighs. Luckily, CoolSculpting has been approved for use on all of these features. And, in yet another bonus for patients, the procedure is performed in a clinic, nixing the need for a trip to the hospital.

A CoolSculpting session is performed by a professional physician who uses a device with a cooling applicator. The specially designed instrument is applied to target areas on the body, delivering controlled cooling conditions.

The experience is quick and has been shown to be safe through numerous clinical studies and peer reviews. The trust people have in its harmlessness is evident by the more than 1 million procedures that have been performed around the world to date.

What Happens to the Fat?

Unlike liposuction which removes fat, CoolSculpting involves the freezing of excess fat cells under the skin. Called cryolipolysis, the concept behind the procedure was developed by Harvard Medical School scientists. After the fat cells have been frozen, they die and are naturally flushed out of the system.

It’s in this way that fat cells are completely eliminated from the body, and what makes CoolSculpting a fat-reduction rather than a weight-loss treatment. Because the fat cells no longer exist, they cannot grow again – as they do with weight gain – or shrink with weight loss.

And, as the session only targets fat cells, the skin and surrounding tissue are unaffected by the freezing.

How Long For Results?

Not only is the procedure quick to complete, but patients can notice changes in their bodies in as little as three weeks. While the most dramatic results will be apparent after two months, the body will only keep changing as it continues to eliminate dead fat cells up to four to six months after treatment.

And patients don’t have to worry about fat disappearing in one place and popping up in another. That’s because CoolSculpting does not change the distribution of fat cells in untreated areas.

How Will My Body Look?

First and foremost, patients with healthy lifestyles will come away from their CoolSculpting experience looking slimmer. The shape of their body will change as the fat cells in those pesky problem areas die off and make their exit.

And the physical changes the body undergoes will be natural in appearance, as the skin is left undamaged by fat-cell freezing.

Unlike other cosmetic enhancements that can create a ‘fake’ or ‘plastic’ look, CoolSculpting doesn’t leave any traces of treatment behind, meaning patients are unlikely to have to explain away a scar, swelling or an obviously altered feature.

And, for further results to their figure, patients can opt for repeat treatments.

How Will My Body Adjust After CoolSculpting?

One of the biggest benefits of a non-surgical procedure such as CoolSculpting is there is no recovery time. Patients can be in and out of a session without missing a beat in their daily routine. There’s no need to plan for a lengthy hospital stay or to stock up on soup and medicine.

In fact, the body will recover almost immediately from the freezing session, and will be able to stand up to all the physical activities it performed before.

And because there is no need for stitches or bandaging after the CoolSculpting procedure, others won’t be able to tell a patient had any work done.

How Long Will The Results of a CoolSculpting Treatment Last?

Once the fat cells die and leave the body, they are gone for good. They cannot shrink, grow or reappear. However, just because a patient undergoes CoolSculpting doesn’t mean he or she can’t gain weight.

In order to maintain the improved look, it’s important to nurture one’s body with regular exercise and a healthy diet.

Oftentimes the initial transformation created by a CoolSculpting treatment is the boost patients need towards an active and healthy lifestyle. By eliminating areas of fat that were creating anguish and stress, patients are given a fresh start and choose to continue on a positive path of self-care.

By putting one’s overall health in focus, the results CoolSculpting has on one’s body are not only long-lasting, but life-changing.

While the body undergoes a lot of changes after receiving CoolSculpting, most of the action happens under the skin at a cellular level, leaving little to be seen by the naked eye.

In fact, with no pain, recovery time or physical healing, the only change likely to be noticeable is a resulting slimmer body shape – not to mention an air of confidence!

Not only is the procedure non-invasive, but it focuses on eliminating fat altogether rather than reducing weight, making it the optimal treatment option for thousands of patients across the globe.

So give your body the boost it needs and talk to us about whether CoolSculpting is a good fit for you.

Why CoolSculpting Will Make You Question Any Weight Loss Procedure

Let’s face it, the results from some fad diets and fat reduction treatments may leave you swinging back and forth
between “before” and “after” versions of yourself.

Don’t you wish there was a way to look and feel your best, without spending endless hours at the gym or going under the
knife?

Fortunately, there is a method out there and it’s taking the health and diet industry by icy-cold storm. It’s called CoolSculpting – the only FDA-cleared, non-surgical fat reduction treatment
that uses controlled cooling to eliminate stubborn fat that resists all efforts through diet and exercise. The results
are proven, noticeable, and lasting, so you’ll look great from every angle.

Still not convinced? Here are just 5 reasons why CoolSculpting will make you question any weight loss procedure on the
market today.

CoolSculpting before and after, weight loss

1.  Because It’s Virtually Painless

We all know the old adage ‘no pain, no gain,’ but it’s not exactly true when it comes to CoolSculpting. While there can
be some bruising, swelling, and tenderness, it’s nothing that will hold you back from your ordinary activities or keep
you from earning an income. Note: there are some side effects to CoolSculpting. You can find those out here.

2. It’s Non-Invasive

Don’t let the term ‘sculpting’ scare you away – there’s no need for a scalpel or even a needle. CoolSculpting is
probably one of the gentlest procedures on the market today when it comes to the battle of the bulge.

Procedures that use laser, sonic waves and even surgery to remove fat can actually destroy other tissue in the process
by burning, shattering or extracting non-fat cells. This requires downtime for your body to heal.

Fortunately, the CoolSculpting procedure doesn’t burn, shatter or extract any cells. Developed by Harvard scientists,
this unique, FDA-cleared, patented procedure uses a targeted cooling process that kills the fat cells underneath the
skin, literally freezing them to the point of elimination. Only fat cells are frozen. Your healthy skin cells remain,
well, healthy. No knives. No suction hoses. No needles. No scars. Once crystallized, the fat cells die and are naturally
eliminated from your body.

3. CoolSculpting is Affordable

Sound expensive? With such hefty claims of success, it’s only natural one would assume a hefty price tag would go
hand-in-hand with this innovative procedure.

However, when you compare it to more drastic measures like going under the scalpel or all the dollars wasted over the
years on ineffective pills, potions and machinery, CoolSculpting is in fact easier on the wallet – it’s also safer,
painless and there’s no recovery time to worry about. For a detailed look on what you can expect to spend, check out our
recent post on the costs of CoolSculpting.

4. It’s Convenient

Don’t want to spend your weekend inside? We don’t blame you. Unlike a lot of other procedures, CoolSculpting takes very
little time and is pretty simple to fit into your daily life.

Since CoolSculpting is non-invasive, there is no healing that needs to be done. The cooling panels freeze the fat cells
externally, which cause them to die. Your body then simply reabsorbs the dead cells through the lymphatic system, and
then excretes through natural processes.

After your CoolSculpting treatment, you can typically get right back to your busy day. Each treatment lasts one hour –
the same time you might spend at the gym. So you can easily fit your appointment into a lunch break. After one visit,
you’ll typically see a noticeable reduction of fat. It takes a few months to fully realize the effects, mainly because
it takes that long for your body to naturally dispose of the fat cells.

5. CoolSculpting Works!

Are you tired of losing weight only to gain it back and then some? You’re not alone.

A
Heart and Stroke Foundation survey
of almost 2,000 Canadians found that 62% reported intentionally losing five or
more pounds over the past five years but failed to keep the weight off. And 70% of those who were overweight or obese
regained all or even more pounds after their weight-loss efforts.

In an attempt to slim down, the same survey reports that a significant number of Canadians use dubious “quick fix”
strategies:

“39% said they followed a diet that restricted certain foods or food groups, 31% used meal replacement bars or shakes,
23% used weight-loss supplements or herbs, and 21% tried fasting. Only one quarter (24%) sought counselling from a
dietitian or doctor.”

With CoolSculpting, you’ll be thinner, your clothes will fit better, you’ll feel and look better – the best part is you
won’t become another statistic of weight loss regain.

There has never been a better time to explore your non-surgical fat removal options like CoolSculpting.

Final Thoughts

Painless? Check. Non invasive? Check. Affordable? Check. A weight loss method that actually works? Check. Okay, so what
exactly are you waiting for?

With these 5 factors in mind, it’s no wonder CoolSculpting is one of the most popular and ‘coolest’ weight reduction
procedures on the market today.

About Dr. Kumar Shivdasani – Vancouver CoolSculpting Expert

Dr. Kumar Shivdasani, Medical Professional and CoolSculpting Vancouver

cosmetic medicine. He is the owner of CuR Laser and

in Vancouver, BC. Education, good lifestyle and diet changes lay the foundation for developing overall health

The Side Effects of CoolSculpting

Many of us have stubborn body fat despite diet and exercise. While one may be tempted to go under the knife to minimize
these pesky areas, perhaps it’s time to consider other options.

You can also forget calorie counting and your daily regimen of 100 crunches on freeze. There’s a new contender in the
battle of the bulge – one that doesn’t require a scalpel or any downtime for that matter.

It’s called CoolSculpting and has taken the diet
industry by an icy-cold storm. This FDA-cleared, non-surgical fat reduction treatment uses controlled cooling to
eliminate stubborn body fat that resists all efforts through diet and exercise. As with any procedure, there is a list
of side effects to keep in mind – CoolSculpting is no exception to this rule.

Before you go making any big decisions, make sure to keep these 9 side effects in mind to see if the treatment is right
for you.

Ready, set, freeze.

Physical Side Effects of CoolSculpting

1. Slight Physical Discomfort

As the cooling begins during the first few minutes, you will feel pressure and intense cold. This sensation soon
dissipates. In fact, many people read, watch videos, work on their laptop, or even take a nap during their treatment.
However, some may experience deep pulling,
tugging and pinching
.

2. Numbness

You may experience reduced sensation over the treated part, but there’s no need to panic. Numbness usually subsides
after a few days. Only small instances are reported of having prolonged and painful responses to CoolSculpting.

3. Swelling & Bruising

CoolSculpting freezes fat cells, causing them to break down and be removed from your body forever. This creates
inflammation which helps the body lose the fat cells. As a result, swelling and bruising can occur as a result of the
suction during treatment.

However, this is completely normal and may last for a few weeks and improves on its own. Note: Inflammation and/or
stinging pain after your CoolSculpting treatment is a completely normal, expected side effect.

There have been reports of some pain following “debulking” treatments for large areas of fat. This is easily and
effectively treated with a medication called “gabapentin”.

4. Vasovagal Symptoms

In some cases, patients may experience vasovagal symptoms during treatment.
These symptoms, associated with activation of the autonomic nervous system include: lightheadedness, dizziness,
flushing, sweating (diaphoresis), nausea, near syncope, or syncope (fainting).

Signs of vasovagal symptoms include pale, cool and clammy skin. Note: This type of rare reaction may be triggered by a
variety of factors such as the patient’s anticipation of the procedure, dietary habits prior to the procedure,
conditions of the treatment room or a response to the procedure itself.

So those are the tangible side effects of CoolSculpting from a symptomatic point of view. But consider these ‘other’
side effects of CoolSculpting:

5. You’ll Turn Heads

The results of CoolSculpting are so effective, noticeable, and lasting that you’ll look great from every angle.
Warning: make sure you are fully prepared for all the admiring glances and compliments that are bound
to come your way this summer.

6. You might finally fit into those skinny jeans

You know that pair of jeans that haven’t seen the light of day in forever? After your CoolSculpting procedure, you may
want to give them the old college try once again. Chances are you won’t need a zipper to squeeze into your favourite
long-lost denim this time around.

Social Side Effects of CoolSculpting

7. You may make your friends envious.

Yes, it’s true! Your friends, coworkers and family members will probably turn 50 shades of green when they get an eyeful
of your new physique. If that happens, just tell them to cool their jets by seeking a CoolSculpting technician
themselves. There’s enough CoolSculpting to go around for everyone.

Lifestyle Side Effects of CoolSculpting

8. You May Turn Into a Gym Rat

When’s the last time you went to the gym? Do you even own a membership anymore? You may want to consider unfreezing that
membership.

Since the CoolSculpting procedure is completely non-invasive, you can return to normal activities after treatment – in
fact, you’re encouraged to.

Unlike liposuction or other surgery that involves a scalpel and a lengthy recovery period, patients are advised to get
to the gym ASAP after their CoolSculpting session. Why? Great question! You see, over the course of the following weeks,
your body will eliminate the dead cells naturally.

The old adage, “Good things come to those who wait,” definitely applies to this one. As the fat flushes out of your
system naturally, you can expect to see dramatic results after about two months. Nevertheless, people have even reported
seeing improvements in as little as three weeks.

While the CoolSculpting procedure motivates most people to continue on with a healthy lifestyle, it does not require the
patient to follow specific guidelines before or after treatment. However, it has been proven that those who experience
the most dramatic results in a shorter period of time are the ones who engage in regular physical activity.

9. You May Start Eating Healthier

You’re also more likely to stick to a healthy diet if you’re physically active, which will help you continue improving
on the results from all that fat freezing.

If you’re okay with a little redness, feeling like a younger, slimmer you and are okay with turning heads, perhaps
CoolSculpting is for you after all. However, this procedure is not for everyone. You should not have the CoolSculpting
procedure if you suffer from cryoglobulinemia
or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria. It’s also not a
treatment for obesity.

As with any medical procedure, ask your physician if the CoolSculpting procedure is right for you.

*Results of all CoolSculpting treatments can vary from person to person.

How Much Does CoolSculpting Cost?

CoolSculpting is a groundbreaking procedure that can safely transform the shape of your body. It is one of the first,
non-surgical means of fat reduction. Unlike intrusive surgeries, CoolSculpting kills fat cells by freezing them. There
